About the Company
Based in Kingston Upon Hull, my client is a well‑established and rapidly growing manufacturing business supplying high‑quality products to customers across multiple industrial sectors. With continued investment in production, automation, and operational efficiency, the business is expanding its finance team and has created an exciting opportunity for a motivated part or fully qualified accountant to take on a commercially focused Finance Business Partner role within a dynamic manufacturing environment.
Main Purpose of the role
The role operates as a key link between Finance, Operations, Commercial, and Systems, ensuring data integrity, meaningful KPIs, and robust management information in a fast-growing, increasingly digitalised business.
Key responsibilities
Product Costing, Pricing & Margin
Complete and maintain accurate costing of units and configurable options, including baseline product profiles. Ongoing monitoring of material, labour, and overhead costs with detailed margin and variance analysis. Sense-check production costing and standard costing within the accounts. Support monthly and annual pricing reviews, including large contract pricing and product development reviews. Assist the commercial team with data-driven pricing decisions and future planning.
Manufacturing & Operational Finance
Monitor production efficiencies, investigate variances, and challenge underlying assumptions. Work closely with Operations on production planning (2+ months ahead) and production control information. Analyse repairs, provisions, and operational balance sheet coding to ensure accuracy and completeness. Support CAPEX appraisals, including return on investment (ROI) analysis. Assist with annual stock take, stock valuation, and ongoing stock integrity.
Stock, Systems & Data Integrity
Maintain strong understanding of stock movements, including Goods Received Not Invoiced (GRNI) and open production positions. Validate data accuracy across systems, ensuring management information reflects operational reality. Work with MIS and Power BI reporting, ensuring KPIs are meaningful, consistent, and reliable. Support the build of units offline, checking cost accuracy and completeness. Contribute to automation and digitalisation of finance and operational reporting processes.
Reporting, Analysis & Controls
Produce and analyse month-end management information, ensuring a rounded picture of performance. Departmental cost analysis and reporting, creating visibility behind sales and marketing spend funnels. Ad-hoc general ledger analysis and balance sheet reviews. Payroll data analysis and validation. Preparation of VAT calculations for new units and input into GP (TBC).
Business Partnering & Continuous improvement
Act as a conduit between departments, translating financial data into operational insight. Provide commercial and financial support to non-finance stakeholders at all levels. Develop and implement improved systems, processes, and controls across the business. Support the Systems Accountant on ad-hoc projects and new system implementations. Assist in training others on new systems, procedures, and reporting tools. Constantly challenge the status quo, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Education
Strong general education with excellent IT and data analysis skills. Qualified or part-qualified Management Accountant (CIMA / ACCA / ACA) or AAT with strong relevant experience. Study support may be considered.
Experience
Manufacturing experience is highly desirable, particularly in environments with complex Bills of Materials and high component volumes. Strong understanding of product costing, standard costing, and operational finance. Experience working with stock, GRNI, and production-related balance sheet items. Exposure to digitalisation, automation, Power BI, or advanced reporting tools preferred.
Personnel Attributes
Investigative, analytical mindset with a strong attention to detail. Comfortable working across departments and challenging data constructively. Proactive, adaptable, and not afraid of change in a fast-moving, high-growth organisation. Strong communicator able to translate financial information into operational insight.
